I ALMOST NEVER GIVE A RENTAL DISCOUNT. MOST OF MY SHOOTS ARE ONE TO SIX DAYS SO IT DOESN'T COME UP VERY OFTEN. WHEN IT DOES I JUST EXPLAIN THAT IF I GIVE A DISCOUNT I WILL PROBABLY HAVE TO TURN DOWN A SHOOT AT FULL RATE AND THEN I WILL BE LOOSING MONEY AND MY ATTATUDE WILL SUCK!!!! I HAVE ONLY ONCE HAD A CLIENT"KNOCK ON WOOD" SAY " SORRY JOE BLOW WILL DO IT FOR $XXX".THAT POOR CLIENT GOT A "NON-OWNER" OPERATOR, WITH LITTLE EXPERIENCE, AND JUNK GEAR. IN OTHER WORDS, HE GOT EXACTLY WHAT HE PAYED FOR. AS STATED BEFORE IT REALLY HAS TO DO WITH YOUR MARKET. I MUST SAY, THAT YOU MUST CHARGE THE GOING RATE FOR YOUR GEAR AND YOUR EXPERIENCE AND DO NOT TRY AND GET JOBS BY UNDER CUTTING THE COMPATITION. MAKE THEM PICK YOU FOR YOUR SKILL AND NOT YOUR PRICE. IF YOU UNDER CUT FOR THE JOB YOU MIGHT GET IT BUT YOU WILL NOT BE CALLED WHEN THE CLIENT HAS A BUDGET, ONLY WHEN HE DOES'T. YOU YOU WILL BECOME KNOWN AS THE GUY THAT WILL DEAL AND IS INEXPENSIVE. YOU WILL BE JUST PULLING MONEY OUT OF YOUR POCKET AND PISSING IT AWAY IN THE LONG RUN. IT'S JUST BAD BUSINESS.
